This summer, there was a fierce battle for 22-year-old Xavi Simons. The Dutchman stood with 10 goals and 7 assists at 25 Bundesliga clubs, his performances speaking louder than his reputation as “a bit difficult to handle” for coaches. The signing battle took place in London, where the English media reported on such and such a done deal with Chelsea, and then ended up signing with Tottenham. Now the agent tells us what made Simons choose the white shirt.
Simons has been put to work at Tottenham, provided an assist on his Premier League debut against West Ham and already has three games in the Spurs shirt. Tottenham fans can thank Thomas Frank for the Dutch striker’s failure to move to Stamford Bridge.

Xavi Simons’ agent, Ali Barat, explains to RMC Sport why it was Tottenham and not Chelsea.
“Tottenham and Chelsea are both fantastic clubs with solid projects, and there was real interest from both sides. Chelsea have always been clear with us. They had certain restrictions that made it difficult to move forward in the negotiations. When negotiations with Tottenham started, it became clear that this would be a project that would be a perfect match for Xavi. I think the conversation he had with Thomas Frank was really crucial to Xavi’s decision,” says the agent.
