League Two club Tranmere Rovers have responded to former Manchester United captain Roy Keane’s statements after the 2-2 draw at Anfield between Liverpool and Manchester United.
Trent Alexander-Arnold was really bad and really should have been replaced quite quickly, he made an unusual number of mistakes and it is easy to draw the conclusion that he was affected by the rumour storm surrounding a likely transfer to Real Madrid when his deal with Liverpool expires in the summer.
After watching the game, Roy Keane suggested that Trent Alexander-Arnold should join Tranmere Rovers over Real Madrid, and the League Two club has posted a rave response on social media that has gone viral.
Liverpool right-back Alexander-Arnold started the club’s big Premier League clash against Manchester United at Anfield this afternoon. However, the defender was often the weak link in the first half as United had a couple of good chances that came down Liverpool’s right flank.
The defender was also to blame for United’s opening after half-time, which gave Lisandro Martinez the opportunity to give the visitors the lead.
Liverpool managed to save Alexander-Arnold’s blush after Cody Gapko equalised before Mo Salah scored a penalty after a foul by Matthijs de Ligt, although Amad Diallo equalised with 10 minutes remaining.
In the interval when the game was still goalless, former United captain Keane put in Alexander-Arnold’s defensive abilities.
The defender is out of contract at the end of this season and rumours have been circulating suggesting a potential free transfer to Spanish giants Real Madrid – a suggestion that Keane dismissed the prospect of on Sky Sports at half-time: “Those chances for United, they’re so simple. Just a couple of balls over the top.
“We talk about how brilliantly Trent is going forward. Trent defends today, oh my god. They are schoolboys.
“There is talk of him going to Real Madrid. As he defends, he goes to Tranmere Rovers after this! He has to do better.”
Tranmere were mentioned because they are neighbours of Liverpool on the other side of the River Mersey on the Wirral, and the Prenton Park club are currently in 20th place in League Two.
Nigel Adkins’ side picked up their first win in four games this weekend after a 1-0 win at home over Carlisle United, with Super White Army winning thanks to Cameron Norman’s 23rd-minute finish.
Norman plays as a right-back – the same position as Alexander-Arnold – and in response to Keane’s view, made it clear that they are happy with what they have in that area of their squad with a rave response on social media.
The post shows a photo of Norman celebrating his goal over Carlisle and reads: “Trained to Tranmere, Roy? No, we’re okay, thanks.”
