Trent Alexander-Arnold’s transfer from Liverpool to Real Madrid last summer has so far not been successful, and it could get even worse for the former Anfield star as Achraf Hakimi is reportedly set to return to the Estadio Bernabeu.

Alexander-Arnold was expected to be a star for Madrid when he arrived from Liverpool in the summer of 2025. – During his time at Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold established himself as one of the world’s best right-backs. His passing was so good that then Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp even used him in midfield.

However, a hamstring injury and a right thigh injury have hit Alexander-Arnold hard this season, and he has had to compete with Dani Carvajal – who is out of contract in the summer and could leave the club – for a place in Real Madrid’s starting line-up.

Although Alexander-Arnold has shown glimpses of his quality for Madrid on some occasions this season, the 27-year-old reached a new low at the weekend.

Madrid manager Alvaro Arbeloa dropped Alexander-Arnold from the starting line-up for the derby against Atletico Madrid at the weekend after he was late for training.

Alexander-Arnold not only had to apologize, but the Madrid defender also learned that national team boss Thomas Tuhel preferred Ben White to him after Jarell Quansah had to withdraw from the last squad due to injury.

White, who has not been assured of a place in Arsenal’s starting line-up, has not played for England since leaving England’s World Cup camp in 2022.

To make matters worse, it has now emerged that Achraf Hakimi is willing to leave Paris Saint-Germain for Madrid in the summer transfer window. Hakimi is the world’s best right-back and is at the top of his game as a 27-year-old.

Both FourFourTwo and Sports Illustrated rank the former Madrid player as the world’s best right-back. He won Ligue 1 and the Champions League with PSG last season.

Hakimi came through Madrid’s youth academy and broke into the first team, but he struggled to get playing time and eventually ended up leaving the club.

According to Real Madrid journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon, the 27-year-old is now willing to return to the Estadio Bernabeu. “Achraf wants to return to Real Madrid and is willing to take steps to achieve that.”

“His contract until 2029 makes the operation very complicated, but the relationship between Real Madrid and PSG has improved recently.”

This is not the first time Hakimi has been linked with a return to Madrid, but it will not be easy to get a deal done.

Hakimi, who has scored three goals and provided seven assists in 24 appearances for PSG this season, is under contract with the French club until the summer of 2029.

PSG are under no pressure to sell any of their best players, and Madrid will have to pay a huge amount to sign Hakimi – something they may not be too keen to do, as they already expect Alexander-Arnold to be their first choice at right-back in the years to come.
