It’s a very active start to the week at Wolverhampton. Coach Vitor Pereira was sacked six weeks after signing an extension with the club, now it is scrambling to save his place in the Premier League. Jørgen Strand Larsen and the rest of the wolf pack at Molineux Stadium are on course for relegation with two points from ten games. Now two candidates are being put forward for the job, both with backgrounds from Manchester United.

According to The Athletic, the Premier League club have been in dialogue with the coach they sacked as recently as December 2024, Gary O’Neill, but the English media reports O’Neill resigned after the initial talks.

Two candidates who are now being discussed internally are Erik ten Hag and Mickael Carrick. The former left Old Trafford abruptly a year ago after being sacked, Carrick has a long career at Man Utd, most recently as a Solskjaer assistant and a few games as a substitute after the Norwegian was sacked in November 2021.

The Dutchman is out of work after being sacked after three games as Bayer Leverkusen manager, Carrick was sacked at Middlesbrough in the summer. Now it is reported that both are candidates for the job. For us, this is a rescue job for Michael Carrick. Keep Erik ten Hag far away.
