The World Cup finals are approaching. The beer taps will be kept open through the June nights, all of Norway is preparing for the historic kick-off of the football World Cup we have seen so far for decades. On Friday, the announcement will be published that creates even greater optimism. We already have good goalkeepers in Ørjan Nyland, Egil Selvik and Viljar Myhra, but now one of the Champions League’s best goalkeepers before the quarter-finals is also available for Ståle Solbakken.

Nikita Haikin has been granted Norwegian citizenship. The Bodø goalkeeper already has Russian, Israeli and English citizenship, but has now also been granted a Norwegian passport, TV2 reports.

Haikin has really made his mark in Europe in his 12 Champions League games against several of the biggest clubs in the world. One goalkeeper UEFA highlighted in particular at the end of February.

This means that the 30-year-old who has been in the biggest games can be selected for Norway’s final squad for the World Cup, which will be selected on May 11.

Now Ståle Solbakken and Frode Grodås will “sit down and talk” about Haikin against the other candidates. If you ask Kjetil Knutsen or the Bodø/Glimt supporters, it is impossible to defend a Norwegian World Cup squad without the Champions League hero.
