It seems like half an eternity ago, but it’s actually no longer ago than January 17 that Ole Gunnar’s Solskjaer was kissed in as Besiktas coach. A few days before this, United legend Peter Schmeichel had made an attempt to get Solskjaer to move to his old club.
Schmeichel has a special relationship with his former club, Brøndby, and wants the club back to the top of Denmark (finished second last season). He thought Solskjaer was the right man for the job.
– I met him the day before he left for Besiktas, actually. In Manchester, Schmeichel begins to Dagbladet.
– I wanted him to another club. This was at a time when Brøndby needed a coach, and I have always thought that Solskjaer would be perfect for Brøndby. I know him so well, and it would work so well. But I didn’t know he was going to Besiktas, but good for him. I didn’t advise him, but I asked if he was interested. So that was it,” says the United legend.
That was it. Anyway, cool that Schmeichel saw Solskjaer as perfect to lead Brøndby back to the top.
