In January, reports began to trickle out that Manchester United were opening up for the sale of Kobbie Mainoo, the player United legend Neville described as part of “United’s heart and soul”. What made it even more shocking for the supporters was that rival Chelsea were getting ready to take advantage of the opportunity. Two months later, the mood has changed.

The 19-year-old Mainoo has had a challenging season with injuries, where he missed seven games earlier in the season, now probably in to miss another eight games after the muscle injury he sustained in February. However, there is no doubt about the teenager’s position at United, with 15 of 19 Premier League games in the starting eleven.

So far, there has been no sale of United’s new key player. Now work is being done to extend Mainoo’s contract, but where information leaking out makes United supporters stumble.

According to the Daily Mail, Man United have opened talks with Mainoo over a new contract, the 19-year-old’s representatives intend to exploit the negotiating position and demand £180,000 in weekly wages for Mainoo.

If United accept the claim, Kobbie Maino will become one of the highest paid in history at such a young age.

The supporters who threw themselves over the keyboard to express their displeasure with the United management opening up to the sale of Mainoo, have once again expressed their opinion – this time in shock and disbelief at the 19-year-old’s demands.

Here is a small selection of supporters who know ticket prices at Old Trafford are going to increase and are sick and tired of being ridiculed by their opponents in the Premier League.

“He’s not even worth Eriksen’s salary, let alone 180k!!”

“Can’t lie, we don’t have any current player who deserves 180k except Bruno”

“This is why we shouldn’t overhype young players. Every time they appeared, fans always overreacted. Look at Obi-Martin, he got 3 chances with 0 goals in a game and some fans were already talking as if he was the next Mbappe or Ronaldo. Mainoo is nowhere near being a 180k per week player now.”

“He has potential, but what he has proven does not justify a 180,000 contract. From what he has shown, 100,000 should be the maximum. Can’t have players on a big contract and not show up week after week and then struggle to sell them because of their contracts.”
