Liverpool are back on track. The streak of Premier League games without a win has cost a back-to-back title, something pretty much all “experts” agreed would happen in the 2025/26 season, but the panic feeling of “now everything is going to football hell” is gone. Even Mo Salah is back and playing, scoring and smiling again. Virgil van Dijk and Salah choose to give a lot of credit for Liverpool’s turnaround to “next captain”.
“We are very dependent on him and he is one of the best players in the world at the moment,” Salah said after the FA Cup win against Brighton.

The player who is being praised is Dominik Szoboszlai. The Hungarian midfield star has firmly established himself in one of the main roles at Liverpool. 10 goals and 7 assists in 35 games says a lot, Van Dijk’s description of his teammate’s role in the team says even more.
“It’s up to the manager (who will be the next Liverpool captain), but yes. Of course, he has been very good. I also believe that he can steadily take the next step as leader of the team. It starts with leading by example, and he’s done that so far this season,” Van Dijk told ESPN.
