It seems that this year’s transfer saga is coming to an end and it is the London club Arsenal who are about to win what will be a Swedish record.

Viktor Gyökeres is just details away from a move to English giants Arsenal.

Record sum of approximately €80 million

According to Aftonbladet, the final details of a deal that is expected to land around this will make Gyökeres Sweden’s most expensive footballer ever, breaking the current records of Zlatan Ibrahimović (Barcelona) and Alexander Isak (Newcastle), who both went for around 70 million euros.

Conflict with Sporting Lisbon resolved

The Swede’s future has been a long-winded affair this summer, after he claimed that Sporting broke a promise to let him go for a pre-agreed sum. The club denied that such a deal ever existed. But now it seems that the dispute is over.

The Athletic confirms negotiations

David Ornstein of The Athletic also reports that Arsenal almost agree with Sporting. According to Ornstein, Gyökeres has already agreed on a five-year contract with Arsenal, and Mikel Arteta is personally working to get the deal in place.

Arsenal, who finished second in the Premier League last year and reached the Champions League semi-finals, see Gyökeres as the missing piece to challenge Manchester City for the league title.

If the transfer goes through, it will not only be a Swedish record – but also a clear signal that Arsenal are serious about their pursuit of trophies.
