After a lot of back and forth and a whole bunch of rumours and arguments, Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting Lisbon.

The Swedish goal machine was wanted by everyone, especially after his club promised last year that they would not stand in the way of a transfer this summer. When Sporting manager Ruben Amorim took over from Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, most people expected his biggest star to follow suit as soon as possible.

“Now I really want to prove myself,” he told Arsenal’s website.

Transition Details

After weeks of speculation, the Swedish international (27) was presented as Arsenal’s new striker on Saturday night.

  • Transfer fee is €63.5 million plus €10 million in bonuses
  • Gyökeres takes over jersey number 14 – previously worn by legend Thierry Henry

Why did he choose Arsenal?

In his first club blog, Gyökeres explained why he turned down offers from Manchester United, Juventus and Chelsea, among others:

  • “I just felt that this was the right club for me. What Mikel [Arteta] and [sporting director] Eduardo [Costa] told me, combined with how Arsenal have played in recent years, convinced me.”
  • “When we faced Arsenal last year, I noticed how strong they were. The club’s history and fantastic supporter base made the choice easy.”

Commitment to the future

Gyökeres also expressed his gratitude for already receiving massive support from fans, adding:

  • “I live to score goals. To do it in this shirt, for these supporters, is an incredible feeling.”
  • “I started my career in England a long time ago and have developed a lot. Now I’m ready to prove myself for real.”

Next steps

Gyökeres will now join the team on their Asia tour, where he will make his official debut in the Arsenal shirt.

Moreover, as agent Hasan Cetinkaya has pointed out on several occasions, Viktor Gyökeres’ goal is to win the Champions League, something Manchester United are miles away.

Moreover, a couple of days ago, we were able to reveal that Swedish goal machine Viktor Gyökeres has reportedly decided not to sign for Manchester United after witnessing how manager Ruben Amorim treated a player at Old Trafford.

According to the Portuguese Record, Gyökeres was deeply affected by how Amorim “wasted” his Swedish compatriot Victor Lindelöf. Both players share the same agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, who was reportedly also furious about the situation.
