Viktor Gyökeres’ future has taken a surprising turn. Gyökeres is one of the most sought-after attackers before the summer transfer window opens.

He is attracting a lot of interest after his incredible goal celebration this season, scoring a whopping 53 goals across all competitions.

Gyökeres, who joined from Coventry City in the summer of 2023, scored 43 goals last season and is now living his most goal-scoring period ever. Premier League clubs Arsenal and Manchester United, as well as Paris Saint-Germain, are monitoring his situation closely before making any official bids.

However, according to the latest information, Manchester United seem to be leading the hunt for his signature.

L’Équipe journalist Loïc Tanzi claims that Manchester United “will accelerate” negotiations to sign Gyökeres, after they are close to an agreement on the transfer of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

According to the report, United will try to finalise a deal for the 26-year-old – who played under Rúben Amorim at Sporting – after Wednesday’s Europa League final.

They have been following Gyökeres for “several weeks” and “remain active” in the market for a new striker, while also closing in on a deal with Cunha. The Red Devils are the first club to make a “concrete offer” for the Swede, amid intense transfer speculation.

Amorim himself is eager to pick up a new No. 9 before the 2025/26 season.

Rasmus Hojlund, who cost a whopping £72 million from Atalanta, has had a tough season with only four league goals in 31 games.

Gyökeres could be the ideal solution to United’s goalscoring problems, especially as he already has experience in England – albeit in the Championship.

He scored a total of 38 goals in the English second division during his time at Coventry.

The star player was also part of Brighton, but never got a single league game for them.

Gyökeres, who cost Sporting just over £20 million, has been extremely dangerous in Portugal, scoring 96 goals in 101 appearances in all competitions. – The Swede is worth €75 million at the latest update from Transfermarkt, but that was in December before he secured league gold for Sporten with his goals.
