Gyökeres ‘furious’ over demands for at least €80 million to leave Sporting
The striker is unhappy because he believes that the club is breaking the promise made to him, where a transfer could take place for €60 million plus €10 million in bonuses.
Luís Pedro Sousa and the “quarrel” between Gyökeres and Sporting: “It’s a deep crisis”
…
Gyökeres is “furious”, according to sources close to the player describing the situation to Record, after the Swedish international learned that Sporting president Frederico Varandas does not respect the gentleman’s agreement that was made about his sale.

As our newspaper previously reported, Gyökeres remained at Sporting in 2024/25 after a brilliant first year at Alvalade, after he was promised that he would be given better terms to leave the club this summer. In other words, it was guaranteed to him that his buyout clause of 100 million euros would not be an obstacle and that he could leave if Sporting received a concrete offer of 60 million euros, plus 10 million depending on bonuses.
The decision to leave the Green and Whites was made a long time ago, and as we wrote on 27 May, the desire for a career change has not wavered – even after a successful season crowned with “the double” (league and cup championships) and all the (repeated) expressions of support he has received from Sporting fans.
However, in response to some requests that have reached Alvalade, the club under Frederico Varandas’ leadership has asked for a sum higher than what was agreed, around 80 million euros, according to reports. The demands have not been well received by the player, who feels “furious” because he believes the club is breaking what was promised to him at the start of the season.
Another source, close to the matter, confirmed to the Record that at the beginning of the season, a meeting was held between Frederico Varandas, Sporting’s former sporting director Hugo Viana, Gyökeres and his agent. It was explained that the club would not demand the full buyout clause due to his age (26 years old at the time), without the president setting a specific transfer fee. The same source added that Sporting have not received any official offers for the striker as of today.
