When Manchester City’s super-goalkeeper Ederson decided to go for Guardiola, the red carpet was rolled out for one of England’s greatest goalkeeping talents. With strong competition from Newcastle, James Trafford was signed this summer, the Burnley goalkeeper has the potential to take over as England’s national team goalkeeper. The 23-year-old started the season as the first goalkeeper, had some less fortunate interventions, then came the shock in the transfer to September.
The shock was Gianluigi Donnarumma, the world’s best goalkeeper. The Italian was pushed out of PSG, playing for Pep Guardiola and with friend Erling Haaland tempted the most. For James Trafford, the red carpet disappeared and was rolled out for Donnarumma.

On the first of September, Gianluigi Donnarumma entered the training ground and Trafford was relegated to the bench. Trafford will get a few games on the line for City, but hardly enough to play themselves relevant for England’s World Cup squad. According to the Daily Mail, the 23-year-old has signalled he wants to leave City, four months after arriving.
The question is whether Trafford will be allowed to leave in January. Stefan Ortega has also realized Donnarumma is shadowing the “playing time sun” and also wants to leave in January.
