While the Manchester United management is currently deciding on an interim head coach for the rest of the season, the English media have put together the list of candidates for the permanent (everything is relative) job from next season. Here two names first appear, then a suddenly available Chelsea coach, so a name we are sceptical about.
Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola have both shown they understand the Premier League, at Crystal Palace and Bournemoth respectively. The German and Spaniard were immediately highlighted by various English media as candidates for the United job from this summer. Now Enzo Maresca has also been mentioned, the Chelsea coach who suddenly found himself out of work just before Ruben Amorim was sent out of Manchester.

And the coach we are skeptical about?
According to Football Insider’s sources , Christopher Vivell, Director of Recruitment at Man United, is pushing for Julian Nagelsmann to become the club’s next permanent manager. Vivell and Nagelsmann previously worked together at RB Leipzig and have a strong relationship.
The former RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich coach currently has the task of giving Germany a less embarrassing championship in the World Cup, than in the European Championship on home soil. After this summer’s World Cup, Nagelsmann could potentially become available.
Nagelsmann created great enthusiasm as a young and up-and-coming coach of Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig, but got a wake-up call when he was to lead Bayern Munich with expectations of only titles. We remember the now 38-year-old Nagelsmann was asked about the Premier League before signing with Bayern Munich in 2021. At the time, he thought it seemed a bit stressful, but opened up to taking a Premier League job “sometime in the future”.

We weren’t particularly impressed with how Nagelsmann handled the extreme weekly pressure as Bayern Munich coach, especially when things got tough. At Manchester United, you have to multiply this by five. Julian Nagelsmann is not the right man to lead Manchester United for us.
Now the Red Devils need a coach who has already cracked codes in the world’s toughest league.
