Before the new year 2023, Lillestrøm could announce they had brought in Swede Andreas Georgson as their new head coach. Seven months later, Georgson was bought out by Manchester United. Then came the change in December that affected the Swede – and United’s position in the table.
At Manchester United, the Swede was put in charge by Erik ten Hag for United’s set-piece situations. Four months later, the Dutchman was history at Old Trafford. The whole group of Dutch assistants disappeared when Ruben Amorim and his team arrived in November, Georgson stayed.
At the beginning of December, Amorim announced that he has handed over responsibility for set-piece situations to Carlos Fernandes.
“The idea is that Carlos is responsible for set-piece situations and other things. Andreas is there to help. That’s it,” Amorim told the Manchester Evening News.
In came Fernandes from Sporting, immediately after Manchester United lost 2-0 to Arsenal – both goals on set-pieces. There have been several since, most recently against Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
Amorim therefore saw the need to move out and support their set-piece expert from Sporting.
-That responsibility lies with me and not Carlos. We are a team in good moments and in bad. We have a way of working on things and we probably have to improve it, but we didn’t lose because of set pieces,” Ruben Amorim said.
Of course, we wonder what the former Lilllestrøm coach Georgson thinks about the matter.
