Watford have created a special shirt designed with inspiration from Sir Elton’s “Diamonds” album and the look of the classic club.

The shirt is made to mark 50 years since his successful tenure as Watford chairman. Watford have unveiled a special edition shirt in honour of their most famous supporter and former chairman, Sir Elton John.

Inspired by the cover of his 2017 “Diamonds” compilation album, the shirt features a faint star motif on the front, silver Watford badges and Kelme logos, and the club’s retro “Happy Hornet” badge on the hem of the shirt.

The collar and cuffs feature additional star detailing, while the back is embossed with lyrics from one of his most iconic songs, “Your Song”.

The shirt – designed in collaboration with Elton himself – will be worn when the Hornets host Blackburn Rovers in the Championship.

This marks the start of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary since the music legend became Watford chairman back in 1976, a role in which he oversaw the club’s remarkable rise from the fourth division to the first division.

To launch the release, current players recuperated some of Elton’s most famous album covers in full kits. Defender Kevin Keben interpreted “Jump Up!” with a bowler hat, while Mattie Pollock hailed the “Rock of the Westies”.

Half music, half football, and all Watford – this is a showstopper worthy of Rocket Man himself.
