Federico Chiesa was brought to Anfield with expectations of becoming a long-term part of the Liverpool machine under Arne Slot. The first part of his debut season has been without much playing time. Injuries and a level of physicality that has made Slot choose other options on the wing, have characterized Chiesa’s stay at Liverpool so far. This winter, the Italian has been heavily linked with a return to Serie A on loan. On Saturday, the 27-year-old’s liberating goal finally came, but the response from Slot suggests that Chiesa still hasn’t convinced.
On Saturday, Liverpool won 4-0 over Accrington in the FA Cup with a goal on Chiesa, the first in a Liverpool shirt.
After the game, the Liverpool manager was of course asked about the long-awaited goal.
“It’s certainly a good first step, but even though I liked the way Accrington played, we have to take into account that it was League Two level. It’s good to have him back on the pitch. He was a threat, but we shouldn’t get carried away,” says Arne Slot about Chiesa according to the BBC.
To us, it seems that Slot indirectly confirms that Chiesa needs to get playing time outside Anfield to reach the necessary level required to wear the Liverpool shirt in the world’s toughest league.
