Bayer Leverkusen have had gigantic success with Xabi Alonso as coach. It was therefore not surprising that both Real Sociedad’s coach, the club Alonso left as second-team coach, and Xavi, Alonso’s teammate on the Spanish national team, have been heavily linked as Alonso’s replacement. Who himself is on his way to Real Madrid. A smooth continuation for Leverkusen should thus be assured. A Dutchman has interfered in this “perfect” picture.
Erik ten Hag has also been linked with the Leverkusen job over the past week. Ten Hag has a strong link to German football, where he managed Bayer Munich’s second team before the Ajax job.

According to Kicker, Leverkusen have landed on Ten Hag as their new manager. There will be no continuation of the Spanish one, now it will all be about Ten Hag football that will send Leverkusen past Bayern Munich again.
The German media claims the Dutchman and the Bundesliga club are in the final stages of negotiations, so if/when Alonso’s transfer to Real Madrid falls into place, Leverkusen are ready to present Ten Hag as their new coach.
