Wigan Athletic FC played in the Premier League between 2005 and 2013, reached the League Cup final in 2006 and won the FA Cup in 2013, but have struggled since then.
Recently, Wigan were relegated from the Championship to League One, and on Friday the league body EFL announced that the club must start the next season in League One with minus four points due to the club not paying player wages on time, as well as due to other breaches of the league body’s regulations.

At the same time, the announcement was that Wigan would receive another four minus points – unless owner Abdulrahman Al Jasmi deposited an amount equal to 125 percent of the combined sum of all monthly wages into a specific bank account by May 24.
During Friday, the BBC reports that the Wigan owner did not deposit the predetermined amount, and thus the club is awarded four more minus points.
