Romelu Lukaku suffered a serious thigh injury in the friendly against Olympiakos four days ago. Examinations at the Pineta Grande Hospital confirmed a high-grade injury to the “muscle rettus femoris” of the left thigh.
The player has already started rehabilitation and will be considered for surgery. The injury forces Napoli back into the transfer market.

Napoli writes in a press release that the 32-year-old has suffered a serious thigh injury that will possibly require surgery. The Belgian player is expected to be out for at least three months.
This is a hard blow for Napoli, who have now re-entered the transfer market.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the reigning Serie A champion wants to bring in a new striker after Lukaku’s injury. Several names are mentioned:
- Joshua Zirkzee (Manchester United)
- Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace)
- Artem Dovbyk (Roma)
- Nikola Krstovic (Lecce)
Football Italia refers to transfer journalist Niccolò Ceccarini, who claims that Zirkzee is coach Antonio Conte’s preferred option. Previously, it has been reported that Manchester United are open to selling the Dutchman.
Lukaku accounted for 14 goals and 10 assists in Serie A last year.
