Jeremy Jacquet signed a contract with Liverpool in February and took the plane back to Rennes to continue the season. The 20-year-old will move to Anfield from July 1. Labelled “one of the greatest centre-back talents on the market” and a price tag of a wild £60 million, everything changed for Jacquet after signing for the reigning Premier League champions. Then came the cup match against Marseille, where the 20-year-old was toyed with by Mason Greenwood. Then a Ligue 1 match against Lens where it really hurt in the shoulder. The run-up to his debut at Liverpool is anything but planned.
The 20-year-old should get plenty of playing time in Ligue 1 and get ready for a move this summer. There will be a move, but according to Ouest France , Jeremy Jacquet has probably played his last game this season. Plagued by a shoulder injury, which he suffered in early February, he now has to lie down on the operating table.

Although Liverpool’s medical staff have been in dialogue with the French club, they have let Rennes’ doctors and the player himself make the final decision on the course of events, the media claims.
This means that Jeremy Jacquet will enter the world’s toughest league next season with 33 games at senior level in France and a shoulder operation behind him. Sounds like Liverpool will have to postpone their introduction to the Premier League for their £60 million investment. There are plenty of glaring examples of players from other leagues who are unprepared to be thrown into a pace, intensity and punch they have never experienced before.
The upside is that surgery will hopefully make the introduction easier, when the damage has occurred anyway.
