Who thought that former Bodø/Glimt player Philip Zinkernagel would share headlines with Neymar, but then the football world is not what it once was. Last week, the former Bodø/Glimt player was brought in by former national team coach, Gregg Berhalter. Chicago Fire had been impressed by the Dane’s season on loan at Glimt and wanted the winger. Now they are working to bring in a Brazilian winger to Chicago. Neymar himself.

No matter how much you love Neymar as a player and superstar, his stay in Saudi Arabia has been a big deal. The Brazilian has cashed in an annual salary of around €138 million, since his transfer from PSG in 2023, Neymar has either been injured or on holiday. The club has got 7 games with the world star – and 1 poor goal. You’d think clubs are no longer willing to throw money at what was once one of the world’s very best, but the time of surprise is clearly not over.

Several Brazilian clubs have closed the door on Neymar under the motto: “We are a football club, not a hospital”. This does not scare the Chicago Fire management.

According to Foot Mercato, MLS club Chicago Fire are prepared to offer Neymar a way away from Saudi and are now talking to the Brazilian about a two-year contract. The Chicago-based club wants to make “a big splash” and land a contract with the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain player.

Talks are in the early stages of what could be a long process to land a contract with Neymar. First Zinckernagel, then Neymar. Yes, why not?
