Alessandro Altobelli, who won the World Cup with Italy in 1982, is confident that the Azzurri will qualify for the 2026 World Cup: “This team can give us satisfaction.”
Italy’s legend Altobelli turns 70 today and has given interviews to several Italian media, including Sport Mediaset.
Gennaro Gattuso’s Italy will face Northern Ireland in the qualifying semi-finals of the World Cup in March 2026, and Altobelli is confident in the Azzurri’s chances of qualifying for the championship.
Szczesny reveals: “I played my first year at Barcelona to pay what I owed Juventus.”
“If we are going to referee the match against Norway, we obviously can’t talk nicely about the national team, but I’m confident. Qualification is in a few months.”
“I think this is a young team, a team with quality and passion. This team can give us satisfaction, and they can also handle the pressure because Italian football has always been great and has always achieved results, such as four World Cup wins and two European Championship titles.”
The Inter legend also praised Inter’s coach Chivu despite two consecutive defeats against AC Milan and Atletico Madrid.
“Everyone was worried because Chivu was the Parma coach and they were unsure if he was up to the task,” said the Inter legend.
“Today I finally read that he is a good coach who can win and who knows football. After all, every ex-footballer who becomes a coach knows about football; What they need is to make their players understand that.”
Finally, Altobelli spoke about Serie A’s title race: “Inter and Napoli have a little extra, but Juventus are not bad either, and even Roma. They have all had a good transition period, play good football and have excellent coaches. I think this is going to be a pretty tough season.”
