Welsh club Wrexham are reportedly ready for their biggest summer purchase, just days after manager Phil Parkinson was criticised for being “bitter”.
Tough start to the season
On Saturday, Wrexham saw a 1-0 lead in their Championship opener against Southampton melt away when their opponents scored two late goals. The defeat left a bitter taste in the mouth after the club’s first game at the second tier in 43 years.

Parkinson was criticised for suggesting that the value of Southampton’s substitutes was crucial – despite the fact that Wrexham themselves have spent around £11 million this summer.
According
to Football League World, “The Red Dragons” are now chasing Manchester City’s 21-year-old defender Callum Doyle, in what will be their highest-rated signing ever.
Doyle, who has been on loan at Sunderland, Coventry, Leicester and Norwich for the past four seasons, is said to be for sale for around £10 million.
However, competition for the
signature Wrexham will have to contend with:
- Bundesliga club Hoffenheim
- Former loan clubs Coventry, Leicester and Norwich
City are also considering a loan deal with an option to buy, which opens the door for Wrexham.
This summer’s signings so far:
- Danny Ward
- Conor Coady
- Kieffer Moore
- Ryan Hardie
- George Thomason
- Josh Windass
- Lewis O’Brien
- Liberato Cacace
Doyle impressed last season with 40 Championship appearances for Norwich. Now, Wrexham’s ambitions could get a significant boost if they manage to sign the City talent.
