Every year, three clubs from the Championship are promoted to the Premier League; the two best-placed clubs in the Championship are promoted directly, while a play-off is played between the clubs in third, fourth, fifth and sixth place for the third place in the Premier League. The Wrexham gang are looking for their fourth direct promotion after Ryan Reynolds and Hollywood buddy took over the amateur club, but it will come at a cost.

Wrexham spent over £30 million during the 2025 summer window in a bid to ensure their squad was strong enough to cope with a step up to the Championship. With two points up to 6th place after 28 games, the dream of the Premier League is alive and well for the Wrexham owners.

Wrexham broke their recruitment record on three occasions and that standard was eventually raised to £10 million by Nathan Broadhead signing. There was also a promise that funds would be made available in early 2026.

Commercial revenues are increasing as the Red Dragons continue to reap the rewards of starring in the award-winning documentary series “Welcome to Wrexham.” Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac are reportedly ready to set another transfer record at Wrexham, with the Red Dragons reportedly making a bid of £19 million, reports Goal.

The bid is for Angers striker Sidiki Cherif. The 19-year-old is considered a long-term addition to North Wales who can make an immediate impact now, in the promotion race.

Wrexham’s terms are set to include a guaranteed upfront payment of £12 million, with the remainder of the transfer covered by add-ons and a significant promotion bonus.

Wrexham will be hoping to secure Cherif’s signature by offering him regular game time. He is said to have already turned down a move to Ligue 1 side Paris FC, while Crystal Palace have the big talent on their radar.

Cherif joined Angers’ senior squad during the 2023-24 season, helping them get promoted back up to Ligue 1. He has scored four goals in the top flight this season – including games against Champions League clubs Monaco and Marseille.
