On Saturday, the Red Shirts were back in Championship action when they hosted Norwich at the Racecourse Ground. It was a tough afternoon for Phil Parkinson’s men, as they lost 2-1. Anis Ben Slimane and Jovon Makama scored for the visitors, while Sam Smith netted for the hosts.
As a result, Wrexham are now in tenth place in the Championship table, while Norwich are still in the relegation zone. – It is not at all certain that Phil Parkinson will keep the manger job for very long. Wrexham, who have brought in fresh money that values the club at several billions, plans to move directly further up to the Premier League.

Hours after the game, Wrexham confirmed that experienced midfielder and captain James McClean had left the club.
It has been announced that McClean, 36 years old, will return to his hometown club, Derry City.
A statement from the club read: “Wrexham AFC can confirm that James McClean, winner of two promotions in a row and captain of the first team, has left the club by mutual agreement and will return to his home city team, Derry City.”
On his own social media account, McClean released an emotional statement.
He wrote: “Have thought and thought to try to somehow put into words what this club @wrexham_afc has meant to me since I signed, and the truth is that whatever words I write, they will not do the feelings justice.”
“I’m going to try, so here it is: It’s honestly been the most incredible and enjoyable couple of years I’ve had. A big thank you to @vancityreynolds and @robmac, who by the way are two wonderful people, for giving me the opportunity to be part of the magic that is Wrexham, or for people outside of Wrexham, ‘Disney FC’. Thanks to the management who believed in me and gave me the honor of captaining this club to history. Thank you to the medical staff, the staff around the stadium and the fans who have been incredible and welcomed me from day one – no politics, no media perceptions, just football. This club has been incredible and shown a real class by making the transition home easy for me.”
McClean continued: “Finally, but certainly not least, all the players that I shared the locker room with, games on the court with and triumphs off the court with, like in Vegas, etc. Enough said. While we forged great friendships (don’t cry @andy14cannon, you make me start, it’s not goodbye, you can still visit), we created a bond and a bond like no other.”
“My only regret is that I couldn’t have been a few years younger when I joined this journey, because this club is only going to keep going and create more magic. But that’s football. It has been a great honour and a great pleasure, and I wish you nothing but further success, for this squad really has the quality to achieve it. Up with the historic ones, who took promotion in a row, in a row, in a row, the Red Dragons. James.”
