In November, the investment group Apollo Sports Capital bought in as the majority owner of Atletico Madrid. Twenty-one days before Christmas Eve, the Americans make the next move – this time in England.
It is Ryan Reynolds and his friend who open up for new owners. Apollo Sports Capital’s investment in Wrexham will help complete the ongoing redevelopment of the club’s stadium and provide general funding.

Hollywood duo Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds will continue to be responsible for the day-to-day running of the club, but they are delighted that Apollo Sports Capital has become part of the project.
“From day one, we wanted to create a sustainable future for Wrexham Association Football Club and do it with heart and humour. The dream has always been to take this club to the Premier League, while staying true to the city. Such growth requires world-class partners who share our vision and ambitions – and Apollo does it to that extent,” Reynolds and McElhenney tell the club’s website.
