Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has set his sights on signing three Premier League midfielders, in addition to Paris Saint-Germain star Vitinha.

Alonso experienced an unhappy return to England, after he saw his Real Madrid team lose 1-0 to Liverpool in the Champions League league phase on Tuesday.

Alexis Mac Allister’s header in the 61st minute secured the points for Liverpool, and the Argentine’s performances seemingly impressed Alonso. According to Fichajes, Mac Allister is part of a four-man wish list put together by the Spaniard, as he looks to bolster his already impressive Real Madrid squad.

Currently, Alonso has a number of central midfielders at his disposal, including Jude Bellingham, Arda Güler, Fede Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni, as well as reserve Dani Ceballos.

While all of the aforementioned players offer a range of qualities, Alonso still believes that the team needs a “groundbreaking passer” to take the step to the next level and unlock the very best defences in European football.

In addition to Liverpool’s Mac Allister, Chelsea playmaker Enzo Fernández and Crystal Palace player Adam Wharton are among those interested in Alonso.

The Basque manager is looking for a player who is recognized for his passing ability, and all four fit that profile.

Mac Allister’s Liverpool contract runs until June 2028, with Transfermarkt valuing him at almost £90 million.

Fernández’s Chelsea deal runs until 2032, and the website gives him a valuation of £70 million.

Wharton, who is the youngest of the Premier League trio at 21 years, has a Palace contract that runs until 2029 and is valued at £52 million. The England international has also previously been linked with both Manchester United and Manchester City.

In October, Palace chairman Steve Parish told talkSPORT that Wharton will want to play “in the Champions League with us, if we can manage it, or probably with another club” sooner rather than later.

As for Vitinha, who is valued at £79 million, his PSG contract lasts until 2029. If Real Madrid pursue any of the four players mentioned, it will likely happen in the summer transfer window of 2026, rather than in January.

Real Madrid are currently five points ahead of Barcelona at the top of La Liga ahead of their local derby away to Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
