Xavi Hernandez has been out of work since the chaos process at Barcelona earlier this year, where the Barca coach initially resigned, was persuaded by the club president to continue, and then was fired by the same guy a few weeks later. Jürgen Klopp had a more orderly exit from Liverpool in the summer, now Xavi and Klopp could end up on the “same team”.
Klopp has the overall responsibility for Red Bull’s clubs such as RB Leipzig, where the Bundesliga club struggles greatly under Marco Rose this season.
After a start to the season far from expectations, especially in the Champions League where the German team has lost all games played, the club’s management is considering a change. In this context, the name of Xavi Hernández has emerged as a possible replacement. The Spanish coach is reportedly on Leipzig’s radar to try and steer the team back on track in European and domestic competitions.
On Tuesday, there were two incidents that could tie Xavi closer to the Leipzig job. The Bundesliga club gave up victory at home to Aston Villa, while on the other side of the globe it was decided that Xavi Hernandez will not be Qatar’s next national team manager.
Tintin Marquez is stepping down as Qatar’s national team manager, Xavi has been reported in negotiations for the job. Now the federation confirms they have chosen a Spaniard as the new national team coach, but not Xavi.
Luis Garcia has served as assistant coach to Marquez since December 2023, the former Espanyol coach will now have the main responsibility.
Xavi is still available, Jürgen.
