Alexander Sørloth has played his way into La Liga as a goal machine. In 171 league games, the Norwegian national team striker stands with 72 goals. At Villareal, he became the league’s second highest scoring player. In his debut season at Atletico Madrid, Sørloth hammered in goals as the league’s 4th highest scoring player. Last season, he showed a scoring form in the first months of 2026 like no other in the league. Now it is reported that Atletico Madrid have realized what they have in the Norwegian giant.
– Will it be Madrid or will it be Turin in the autumn? This was the question Sørloth was asked on the eve of the World Championships. The answer was: “I’m going to Madrid”. Now, Spanish Marca reports that Atletico Madrid have made a decision.

According to the Spanish newspaper, the Atletico management has calculated that it will cost too much to replace a goal guarantor like Sørloth this summer. This means that Alexander Sørloth is part of Simeone’s and Atletico’s plans.
Earlier in June, Sørloth was reported to be in negotiations with Juventus, but the Serie A club is now in the process of investing in PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani (rent with an obligation to buy).

It is anything but a downer to stay, when Atletico choose to go for the 30-year-old. Last season, Søroth was praised by coach Diego Simeone and the Spanish media for his many match-deciding goals in the second half of the season, with five goals in the Champions League and 9 in La Liga. Sørloth in scoring form thus helped Atletico Madrid to 4th place in La Liga and all the way to the semi-finals against Arsenal.

In Madrid, Sørloth has been seen as a back-up for Julian Alvarez, who is in a chaotic transition process, to say the least. With Alvarez well on his way out, this could open up a new lead role for Sørloth – in the position he is made for and has shown he delivers in.
