“Sean Dyche should almost be in the box”

Michael Carrick is under enormous pressure at Manchester United – but another Premier League manager could leave before him.

Crystal Palace and Manchester United both have only 7 points after 8 games in the Premier League.

The experiment failed!

Crystal Palace want a Premier League experienced manager to replace Pierre Sage, after another lifeless defeat to Newcastle.

In a weekend dominated by managerial movements, the chaos at Crystal Palace has gone under the radar. Michael Carrick has dominated the headlines while Manchester United’s freefall has put the Englishman in serious trouble.

However, after just one win in eight games – and a string of goals conceded along the way – it is reported that Crystal Palace are ready to move on from their new boss Pierre Sage.

The Frenchman came to the Palace bench this year after successful spells at Lyon and Lens in Ligue 1, but has already lost five of his first Premier League games.

Their only win so far came against former Palace boss Oliver Glasner, when Palace shocked Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Back to the losses, Sage has now tried to tone down the rumours about his future, insisting that he still has the support of the club management.

“Yes. I think they do,” he replied when asked about his relationship with the board.

“It’s normal [to be under pressure] because we don’t have the results. The noise is a consequence of the team, and we don’t have the points we expect.

“For me, the noise around the team and the club is just noise. I spoke to the chairman this week, but we didn’t talk about this topic.

“We talked about the game, the state of the team and how we build the game plan to compete today. We didn’t talk about this topic. I share my strategy with him and the technical team. That’s normal.

Nevertheless, reports claim that Sean Dyche could be on his way back to management in the aftermath.

Dyche named as top target for Palace

According to The Telegraph, Sean Dyche is the leading candidate to take over at Crystal Palace if they decide to part ways with Sage.

Dyche, who has been out of football since a brief spell at Nottingham Forest last year, has turned to the role of expert in recent weeks.

But the former Premier League star is currently the favourite for the Palace job, ahead of Thomas Frank, Robbie Keane and Eddie Howe – the latter being more closely linked to the potential vacancy at Old Trafford.

However, Crystal Palace fans have not taken the news well, with a number of posts on social media claiming that it is a step backwards.

“If we get Dyche, I genuinely hope Palace are relegated. What has happened to this club in a few months?” says one fan.

Another added: “We had a Europa League-winning manager and won three titles in two seasons, and now (without being disrespectful) the best we can get is Sean Dyche? Run by pure clowns if this is true.”

However, with the league’s worst defensive record throughout the calendar year, and a portfolio of outright attackers such as Dwight McNeil and Jean-Philippe Mateta, others have argued that the hire could be just what they need.

“Dycheball” has had mixed success in the Premier League, becoming the modern “savior” role that was previously filled by the likes of Sam Allardyce and Tony Pulis.

But if it is not Palace, Dyche could still be dressed in the club’s burgundy colours by Halloween – Burnley are also without a manager.
