In recent seasons, Bernardo Silva has been linked with an exit from Manchester City. Barcelona have always been the strongest candidate to persuade the Portuguese ball artist to transfer. Silva was persuaded to stay with Pep and City, only this summer will the 31-year-old leave the Etihad, then as a free agent. For many, Barcelona has been the next natural step for Silva, on Wednesday came the confirmation from archrival Real Madrid that the ball artist has chosen to wear the shirt without the flashy Spotify logo.

In the last month, Real Madrid have also been linked with the Portuguese star. With Jose Mourinho in as Real Madrid coach, Silva has now set his sights away from the Catalan part of Spain and straight to Madrid. Atletico Madrid also hoped for Silva signing, but it is Mourinho who comes in as the winner.

Pep Guardiola can’t find enough superlatives to describe Bernardo Silva as a type of player, leader and importance to Manchester City’s great success. In the Portuguese’s last season in the City shirt, he spent almost 3900 minutes in the match arena – as captain. This is a player who has not started to lose pace or flair. Jose Mourinho intends to take advantage of this.
