It is one of the really great in football that has now passed away. Denis Law was a fantastic goalscorer who, with 237 goals, is still third on the list of all-time Manchester United top scorers. Wayne Rooney is on top with his 253 goals with Bobby Charlton right behind with 245.
He made 404 appearances for Manchester United and 55 caps for Scotland. In 1964 he won the Ballon d’Or, he is still the only Scottish footballer to win the award.
The family of Manchester United legend Denis Law has announced that he has passed away at the age of 84.
“It is with a heavy heart that we tell you that our father Denis Law has sadly passed away. He fought a tough battle, but now he is finally at peace,” Law’s family wrote in a statement.
“We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to his well-being and care, in the past and much more recently.
“We know how much people supported and loved him, and that love was always appreciated and made the difference. Thank you.”
An official statement from Manchester United added: “Everyone at Manchester United mourns the loss of Denis Law, the King of the Stretford End, who has passed away at the age of 84.
“With 237 goals in 404 games, he will always be celebrated as one of the club’s greatest and most beloved players. The ultimate goalscorer, his flair, spirit, and love for the game made him the hero of a generation.
“Our deepest condolences go to Denis’ family and many friends. His memory will live forever.”
