Bayern Munich are closely monitoring Florian Wirtz’s situation at Liverpool, according to sources close to the German club.
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder has had a challenging period since his high-profile arrival at Anfield, and those familiar with the mindset at the Allianz Arena believe he is open to a return to the Bundesliga.
Forget Conte! Manchester United must hire a world-class manager
Wirtz completed a club-record £116 million (later surpassed by Alexander Isak and Bradley Barcola) from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025, with Liverpool investing heavily in the German international in the expectation that he would become a key creative force.
However, the transition has proved more difficult than expected.
Although he has played regularly under successive managers, his production and influence have yet to reach the level that made him one of Europe’s most sought-after young talents.
Sources indicate that the ongoing difficulties have led to increasing internal discussions in Bavaria about realistic possibilities of bringing him back to Germany.
These talks remain exploratory rather than official. Bayern management is to assess team balances, wage structures and the financial effort required, given the size of the sum Liverpool paid.

Liverpool do not want to sell Florian Wirtz
There is a recognition that any approach will face significant obstacles – not least Liverpool’s determination to see the investment succeed.
The club’s sources at Anfield have stressed that there are currently no discussions about selling.
Having committed such a significant sum, the Merseyside club remains determined to give Wirtz the time and platform to regain his best form – seeing him as a long-term cornerstone rather than a short-term disappointment.
For Bayern, the interest is logical. The club has long admired Wirtz and previously considered a deal before choosing England.
A return would give the player a familiar environment, less attention compared to the Premier League spotlight and the opportunity to play in a system that has previously maximized his strengths.
Whether these internal talks develop into something more concrete will depend on Wirtz’s performance in the coming months – and Liverpool’s willingness to consider offers at all.
