Kane became the sixth English player to take the coveted award, having scored a staggering 73 goals for club and country – beating both Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal in the race for the trophy. He thus ended Bayern’s 45-year wait for a Ballon d’Or winner, following in the footsteps of Gerd Müller, Franz Beckenbauer and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

The England captain and record scorer has a contract until the summer of 2027, but it is widely reported that he is closing in on an extension at the Allianz Arena.

Kane forces Bayern to break policy
According to German journalist Raphael Honigstein, Kane is about to sign a lucrative two-year contract – despite the fact that he himself prefers a three-year deal that would take him almost to his 36th birthday.

Either way, the deal breaks the trend: Bayern usually only offer one-year contracts to players over 30. 40-year-old Manuel Neuer, Bayern’s captain and veteran goalkeeper, recently got a one-year deal – while legend Thomas Müller didn’t get a contract renewal in 2025 and left for MLS and Vancouver Whitecaps. However, Joshua Kimmich got a longer deal when he signed his last extension after turning 30.

Kane is in the form of life at 33. After two straight Bundesliga titles and 146 goals in his first three seasons, he has scored 10 times in 12 games this season.

“He hasn’t signed yet. I think it’s due to a couple of extra thousand euros – or a million – that need to be put in place now,” Honigstein joked on talkSPORT’s breakfast show:

“It’s almost finished. It’s just a matter of dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s. Both parties have long agreed that this is a collaboration they want to continue.

“The big topic of discussion has been: is it three years or two? Bayern love him, but think ‘he’s 33, we don’t want to commit for too long’. He wants three years. It will be two – but I wouldn’t be surprised if there is an option there that provides flexibility for both parties. If he continues as he is now and continues to develop – he looks incredibly fit – who knows? Maybe in three years he will still be a player to be reckoned with.

Bayern boss admits Kane will be an exception
Rummenigge has been clear that Kane is considered an “exception”, and spoke openly about the contract policy.

“In the past, I would have said: for players over 30, you should generally only give one-year contracts. But there are exceptions when you are convinced of a player. And that’s what we are with Harry,” the Bayern board member told the Abendzeitung last month.

“You can’t forget: in three years, he’s only been injured once. I remember it myself – when I had a third in my early age, I was already plagued by a lot of muscle problems.

After a classic speech in which he thanked everyone who has helped him to the top, Kane has promised to send gifts to both his Bayern and England teammates as a thank you after the Ballon d’Or triumph.
