Jamie Carragher earns around £1 million from making headlines for Sky Sports. The Liverpool legend does an excellent job here, where individual players or coaches are analysed and slapped on a label that is selling to all of us who quote Carragher. At Bayern Munich, Carragher’s analysis of Florian Wirtz after the Bournemouth game is probably followed with great interest.
Alexander Isak did what he was brought in for, and was responsible for the match-winning 0-1 score, Florian Wirtz was according to Carragher a huge disappointment. According to Teamtalk’s sources, Bayern’s long-term interest in signing Wirtz is still standing. Andoni Iraola has been given the task of bringing out the best version of Wirtz, according to Teamtalk, there are some in Liverpool’s management who are worried about whether Wirtz can reach the extraordinary levels expected of him as the club committed to £116 million for the signing. Carragher doesn’t even see a place for Wirtz in the Liverpool team against Manchester City.

“Wirtz has been very weak again. It’s just nothing. Nothing happens there at all. It was one of the worst I’ve ever seen him in a Liverpool shirt,” Carragher told Sky Sports after the win against Bournemouth.
“I’ve been critical of the fact that he doesn’t have the numbers. But usually when you look at Wirtz, he’s neat and tidy, he’s holding the ball, those are things you like. He’s getting out of a tight situation where you normally expect your player to lose the ball,” Carragher said.
“The reason I’m worried is that I don’t think Wirtz has been in bad shape since he came to Liverpool. I actually think what we’re seeing is what he is,” Carragher continued.
“And I was worried about Wirtz probably 12 months ago. And maybe it was a bit early to say it, but I didn’t say it. It was just in the back of my mind. The concern for Wirtz now is that his performances so far, or what he’s given Liverpool, are so low. Where we expected him to take Liverpool to another league title and take Liverpool to a Champions League.” The gap he has to get to almost justify what people expected, I think is almost too big. You can’t get there. Even if he improves a little bit and gets there, it’s still not what Liverpool thought they were going to get,” Carragher grumbled.
Who himself would not have taken the German to the next game against Manchester City: -Wirtz would not have been in my Liverpool team. Manchester City at home, for me he cannot be in the team.
