Casemiro is of the more low-key type off the pitch, but when he has put on the shirt at Real Madrid, Brazil or Manchester United, the winner’s skull and football beast awakens. In 2024, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher stated that Casemiro had passed out. This turned out to be an analysis that was a complete failure.
“I always think of the phrase ‘leave football before football leaves you’. Football has left him. He has to give up at this level and leave,” Carragher said of the United star after the club was humiliated 4-0 by Crystal Palace in 2024. In February this year, Carragher had to admit he had been thoroughly wrong. Casemiro has delivered for Manchester United, in his final season the Brazilian has emerged as one of the Premier League’s best defensive midfielders.

In an interview with TNT Sports Brasil, Casemiro now talks about the comments from Carragher. There he can’t help himself and makes a small jab in the direction of the former Liverpool player.
“Everyone says what they want on TV. I’m not one to interfere in that kind of thing. But… Maybe there’s still a bit of bitterness there after you’ve won two titles against his club.
Casemiro and Real Madrid beat Liverpool in the Champions League final in both 2018 and 2022. Carragher is still praised by Casemiro for laying flat and turning around.

“I respect his opinion. I don’t hold a grudge. The most important thing is that he admitted that he was wrong and changed his mind,” says the 33-year-old.
