Como is working hard to strengthen the squad ahead of their debut in the Champions League – and now Cesc Fàbregas has pointed out his wish.
Como 1907 has begun the first formal talks with Bologna to secure Jhon Lucumí, a 28-year-old defender, in this summer window. It is the Spanish coach’s clear desire to equip the team for the Champions League adventure.

The management, led by Cesc Fàbregas, wants to take advantage of the Colombian international entering the final year of his contract. His deal expires in June 2027, and Como sees his chance to bring in an experienced stopper just in time for his Champions League debut.
Fàbregas’ defensive plan ready
According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Como 1907 has put Jhon Lucumí at the top of his wish list. He is part of a larger plan that involves bringing in as many as two centre-backs this summer.
Fàbregas believes Lucumí has the perfect profile to build the game from the back. He has already played 123 games in Serie A and knows what it takes at the highest level.
The player has just completed the 2026 World Cup with Colombia, where the team reached the last eight before being knocked out by Switzerland. During the 2025/2026 season, he recorded 43 official matches for Bologna – divided between Serie A, Coppa Italia, Europa League and the Italian Super Cup.
Why Bologna can sell now
Bologna’s negotiating position is clearly marked by the contract situation. With only 12 months left on the deal, the club is considering selling already in this window – rather than risking losing him for free next summer.
Como 1907 wants to close the deal before the official pre-season starts, so that Lucumí has plenty of time to familiarize himself with Fàbregas’ system. The financial weight of the Como club allows them to handle the transfer while negotiating the second centre-back that the coaching staff has requested.
The boards of Como 1907 and Bologna will meet for a management meeting during week 28 in July 2026.
Como’s goal is clear: to agree on the transfer fee by August 1, so that they have time to carry out medical tests before the first team travels to pre-camp.
