Oliver Glasner and Crystal Palace are keeping a decent distance from the relegation battle, but for the London club, this is not an issue. They are rigged to continue within the top ten in the Premier League, anything else is out of the question. It is therefore a real tripwire that Chelsea are laying out for Glasner, halfway through the season.

In the summer, new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca gave a clear message to former academy player Trevoh Chalobah that he had to find a new club for playing time. The centre-back was not even taken to the United States on the preseason tour. Palace opened the door to seasonal rentals, the 25-year-old has been a given in Glasner’s starting eleven.

Chelsea had a clause that they could recall the player halfway through the loan period, but absolutely no one expected Maresca to suddenly want Chalobah in Chelsea’s central defence. This week, Maresca recalled the 25-year-old.

For Oliver Glasner, this will of course be a big challenge.

“It was a bit surprising that Trevor was recalled by Chelsea… We will do something in the transfer window if it makes sense, but if we don’t think we can find the right player to achieve our goals, then we won’t do anything,” the Palace manager said.

Thank you for that, Chelsea.
