There is little doubt that Florian Wirtz is an attacking talent of the rare, but when you play with a price tag of £116 million hanging on your back, then the expectations are similar. The 23-year-old made his debut with 7 goals and 10 assists in 49 games, but struggled at times with the physical demands of the Premier League and faced criticism for his delivery in big games, where Liverpool really needed the magic of the creative player. After Xabi Alonso’s signing with Chelsea, the German has not surprisingly been linked with Chelsea.
Alonso and Wirtz had a sparkling good partnership at Bayer Leverkusen, with the historic Bundesliga title being the big highlight. In recent weeks, various media outlets have linked Wirtz to a reunion with Alonso at Stamford Bridge.

The hyperactive transfer journalist Romano does not like rumours he himself does not post, and used his youtube channel to debunk that it is currently being steered towards reunification: “No, Florian Wirtz is not leaving Liverpool this summer. The relationship between Xabi Alonso and Florian Wirtz is excellent, of course. They won together and had a fantastic time together at Bayer Leverkusen, but that’s it. There is nothing official, no conversations”
Despite reports claiming Liverpool could be open to a sale if they could bring in a sum somewhere close to the £116 million they spent on Wirtz, Romano reports that the Reds are committed to their number 7: “Chelsea are not looking for that type of player and it is important to mention that Florian Wirtz is still an important part of Liverpool’s squad. They believe that next season could be his season in red, so there is absolutely no movement around Florian Wirtz. Forget it.”
