In the group stage of the ATP Finals, Novak Djokovic did not show his best tennis, and his advancement to the semi-finals was decided by Jannik Sinner’s match with Holger Rune, but this did not stop him. The Serb learned his lesson and played inspired in the semi-finals and finals of the event, becoming the first tennis player in history to win the season finals seven times.

It has been quite an unusual season for Novak Djokovic. On the one hand, he overtook Rafael Nadal in the number of slams won, winning the Australian Open, Roland Garros and the US Open. On the other hand, he lost in the Wimbledon final to Carlos Alcaraz, thus not equaling Roger Federer in the number of wins at Wimbledon. He also didn’t perform well in the ATP Finals group stage, which is even more strange because it is one of his favorite events.

Although Djokovic did not play his best tennis at the ATP Finals and had to wait for the result of the last group match between Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune to advance to the semifinals because he had too little advantage over Rune in the group standings, he learned his lesson. Already in the semi-final, the Serb came out more confident and did not give Carlos Alcaraz much room to show off. Djokovic’s victory in the final, however, was not so certain because Jannik Sinner stood on the opposite side of the net. The Italian played the best tournament of his career and defeated Djokovic in the group stage. However, this time the Serb showed that he had learned from the defeat in their first meeting of this event. The Serb won the match with a score of 6:3, 6:3. This win gives him another record and a place in tennis history, as he is the first tennis player to win the ATP Finals seven times!
