Things have been difficult for the Swedish big club Malmö FF for a while, who are now close to signing with the Norwegian coach Eirik Horneland. The 51-year-old from Haugesund couldn’t turn things around for French St. Étienne, which is now a Ligue 2 club. He was brought to French football almost two years ago after success with Brann.

Malmö FF, which has Norwegian Colin Rösler and Erik Botheim in the squad, fired their head coach Miguel Ángel Ramírez at the end of May. Quite soon after that, the talks with Eirik Horneland began.

What attracts Horneland

What attracts Horneland is firstly that Malmö FF is a big club with a strong reputation in Europe. In addition, he is said to be positive about the plan that sports director Philip Berglund and football manager Daniel Andersson have presented to him.

Malmö FF hopes to resolve the final details with Horneland. The club’s ambition is that – if everything goes according to plan and in a positive direction with the Norwegian – they can present their new coach before the players gather again in mid-June.

The club wants to play an intensive football with high pressing – something that fits very well with Eirik Horneland’s philosophy.
