Chelsea demand €140 million
The negotiations are unlikely to be easy. Chelsea have Fernández under contract until 2032, and have all the trump cards. According to several sources, the London club will only consider bids of around £120 million – close to €140 million.
In comparison, the market value is around 90 million euros. But with six years left on his contract, Chelsea are in no hurry to sell. Real Madrid have already tried – and been turned down.
Maresca has to fork out – or look for others
The transfer will largely depend on what happens with Rodri. If the Spaniard leaves for Barcelona, City will have a clear hole in midfield – and Maresca will probably push for his former pupil.
