We cheered on behalf of Erling Haaland in the World Cup. The biggest was of course Norway’s huge success, but for Haaland as a City striker, six weeks of the World Cup showed that he will get back the best working conditions with Rodri back in Ballon d’Or class. The defensive midfielder was named the tournament’s best player, the way he controls play and tempo and breaks up the opponents’ play and pace is back to the same as before the injury problems of the last two seasons. We were a little early to look forward to the new season.

In Euro 2024, Rodri was the king. Then it became a title for Spain. Manchester City also won the Premier League title this year. Rodri won the Ballon d’Or award. Then came the injury in the 2024/25 season that kept the defensive midfielder out of the match arena – and Manchester City without a single title. Last season, Rodri gradually got back into shape. In six weeks with the World Cup and Spain as champions, there is no longer any doubt. King Rodri was back. On Friday, City coach Enzo Maresca will come up with the mediation City supporters don’t like.
