The Bayer Leverkusen defender received a straight red card after a VAR review of a tackle on Jesús Gallardo in the second half at the Estadio Azteca. Despite the sending-off, Thomas Tuchel’s men held out and secured a 3-2 victory.

The English Football Association has considered the possibility of appealing the decision, but on Thursday FIFA announced that Quansah must serve an immediate quarantine. This means that he cannot play Saturday’s quarter-final against Norway in Miami – nor a possible semi-final.
