The Brazilian continues to hesitate, and the Real Madrid president is starting to lose patience with the superstar.
Vinicius Jr is entering a crucial phase for his future at Real Madrid. The white club does not want the extension to become a deadlocked problem, and therefore the management is preparing a clear strategy: They demand a definitive answer when his participation in the 2026 World Cup is over.

The Brazilian’s contract expires on June 30, 2027 – a date that is starting to worry at the Santiago Bernabéu. In just a few months, the player can negotiate freely with any club if he does not extend his deal. It is a scenario Florentino Pérez is not willing to accept without reacting.
Vinicius Jr and an extension that worries Real Madrid
The case surrounding Vinicius Jr carries with it enormous sporting, financial and emotional weight. He’s not just any player in the squad – he’s one of LaLiga’s biggest stars and one of the most valuable assets in the international market, with a current value of close to €140 million.
Real Madrid have already offered him a star contract, but negotiations have not yet been successful. The player has publicly expressed a desire to stay at the club, but the parties at the negotiating table have not come as far as the management had expected.
The club fears reaching the summer of 2027 without room for manoeuvre. Losing a player of this calibre for free would be a hard blow from a sporting point of view – and also an institutional defeat for a club that is used to controlling the rhythm of the market.
Florentino Pérez wants a clear answer after the World Cup
Florentino Pérez has been one of Vinicius’ main supporters since he arrived in 2018, when the club paid €45 million to Flamengo for a talent who was still underage when the deal was signed. For years, the president has protected him in moments of doubt, criticism and external attacks.
This constant support partly explains the current turmoil. The club believes the time has come for the Brazilian to take a clear step. Declarations of loyalty to the club are not enough – the president will have a concrete decision to know whether to build the new project with him as a pillar, or start looking for alternatives.
The presence of Kylian Mbappé has also upset the internal balance. Mbappé’s salary and signing bonus – he arrived as a free agent – have raised the bar for the top figures in the squad. Vinicius Jr wants financial recognition that is in line with his status, but the club will not disrupt the salary structure without a very carefully reasoned adjustment.
The ultimatum
Real Madrid send an ultimatum to Vinicius. The outcome will have direct consequences for LaLiga. Vinicius’ continuity affects not only Real Madrid’s competitive potential, but also the league’s media appeal – a league that needs to retain its top players in the face of pressure from the Premier League and Saudi Arabia.
At the Bernabéu, they are still betting on the Brazilian. The sports plan is actually to keep him as one of the attacking leaders, along with Mbappé – and within the new project that José Mourinho will try to anchor from the sidelines.
Nevertheless, the internal message is clear: There will be no endless waiting. If there is no positive response after the World Cup, the club will start considering other scenarios – including a sale before they lose negotiating power. It may not be the ideal plan, but it is a way to avoid a traumatic ending.
Vinicius’ future is now in his own hands. The player knows he has the love of a large part of Real Madrid’s fan base and a privileged position in the team. But Real Madrid wants action, not just gestures. If he does not accept the extension within the timeframes set by Florentino Pérez, the market could open a door that until recently seemed unthinkable.
