Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked at Manchester United in November 2021. Five years later, most people understand that Manchester United have had no better coach than Solskjaer since Alex Ferguson. From January to September 2014, the United legend was a four-hour drive from Manchester on the Welsh side of the border. There was no success for Solskjaer as manager of Cardiff, but now a former player says that the Norwegian came to a situation that was almost impossible to succeed in.

The former Cardiff player is none other than the national team coach for Wales, Craig Bellamy. On Thursday, he will lead Wales against Norway in the Nations League, before the match he will be asked about his former coach, Solskjaer.

“Great guy. Fantastic guy,” Bellamy begins about Solskjaer to Nettavisen.

The situation in 2014 was very demanding for the United legend.

“He came into a very difficult situation after a manager who was very well-liked at the time. He wanted to change the style of play, but we didn’t quite have the types of players for that at the time, so the team ended up a bit in between. You don’t want that,” Bellamy continues.

Who also has fond memories of his short time with Solskjaer.

“I have a lot of sympathy for his time here. It wasn’t a real picture of what he was capable of as a manager, but as a human being he is thoroughly good,” says the Welsh national team coach.
