The Catalan midfielder has yet to find his place under manager Hansi Flick, and there have been many speculations about his future. Now Gavi has made up his mind: He will stay at Barcelona – and he completely rules out the January market.
Gavi (22) has been among the names that have been circulating in the rumour mill around FC Barcelona’s next transfer window. But the Spanish midfielder has decided to continue in the Barça shirt, despite interest from Napoli and several other European clubs. His agent, Iván de la Peña, confirms that there are no ongoing negotiations with any club and that interest in a move is zero.

Gavi has a contract until June 30, 2030 and still believes he can regain his prominence under Hansi Flick. The priority is clear: Several minutes after a season start in which he has barely been on the pitch.
Napoli are rejected – Barcelona is bet on
Gavi’s future has generated a lot of reports in recent weeks. The limited playing time has piqued the interest of several clubs, especially Napoli, who are trying to strengthen their midfield in the winter transfer window.
According to Calciomercato, the Italian club had begun to explore the possibility of signing the Spanish international. There was even talk of an operation of close to 40 million euros – although there is no confirmed formal offer.
Napoli’s interest comes on top of previous interest from Bayern Munich and several Premier League teams. However, none of these moves have changed the player’s attitude.
The agent rejects everything
His representative, Iván de la Peña, has been crystal clear in his rejection of negotiations. The agent assured SPORT that he has not had talks with other clubs – and confirmed that Gavi will stay at Barcelona.
The decision also reflects the midfielder’s own will. He is not considering leaving the team, despite having lost his position. The contract until 2030 gives the club control over his future without having to negotiate an immediate sale.
Flick has yet to get Gavi back
The sporting situation explains why Gavi is constantly being linked with other teams. The midfielder has only played 211 minutes in eight official games this season – with only two starts.
He also did not participate in the last games against Real Madrid and Deportivo Alavés. Against Aston Villa in the Champions League, he was given around 20 minutes – a clear sign of his secondary role in the rotation.
Competition in midfield has increased considerably with players such as Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Fermín López and Rodri, all of whom have more continuity at the moment.
Hansi Flick, for his part, has acknowledged that he knows the player’s difficulties and that he has spoken to him personally to explain the situation. The German coach believes it is important that Gavi maintains his confidence and continues to work to make up playing time.
The injuries have also left their mark
After overcoming his physical problems, the Spain international believes he needs continuity to compete for a place in the eleven again. The purpose is to show that he can regain importance in the squad.
The next step for Gavi will be to take advantage of the remaining games before the January market to increase participation. Although his entourage rules out listening to offers, his sporting development will depend on the opportunities Flick gives him in the coming weeks.
