Alex Ferguson brought Diego Forlan to Manchester United in 2022. By then, the Uruguayan striker had shown himself as a goal machine in La Liga and for the Uruguayan national team. However, he only scored 17 goals in 98 games in a United shirt, but Forlan became a cult among the supporters with his work ethic, running engine and not least two goals that sunk Liverpool at Anfield in 2002. Now Forlan is brought in to save the honour of Uruguay.
Because with coach Marcelo Bielsa, the highlights have been few and far between. In the World Cup, Uruguay disappeared into the group stage, now the recipe is changed from Argentine coaching legend to Uruguayan football hero.

Diego Forlan is the new coach of the Uruguay national team
Ignacio Alonso, the president of the football association, confirms according to Marca that Forlan will be the new national team coach of the proud football nation.
As a coach, Forlan has had anything but success. In 2020, he coached Penarol for 11 games, while the following year he had 12 games as head coach of CA Atenas. Both times he was fired.
The 47-year-old will take over the national team coaching job at Uruguay on a short contract until March, after which an evaluation will be made of whether he should continue, it is reported. Forlan will also be in charge of Uruguay’s U20 national team.
