On November 18, 2025, Kasper Schmeichel guarded the cage for Denmark in the World Cup qualifier against Scotland. The Scots sank the Danish boys 4-2, in what turned out to be a World Cup without a Danish ticket. Now the veteran goalkeeper reports that he is satisfied. Not mentally, but physically.

“When my contract with Celtic expires in June, I will end my active football career. It’s a decision that has been made for me,” Schmeichel begins to TV2 Sport.

-I have consulted with various surgeons and experts in connection with my shoulder, and they have said that I should not expect to play top-level football again. I’ve thought about it a lot, but I think it’s the right time now,” says the goalkeeper with 120 caps for Denmark since his debut in 2013.

The Dane started his career at Manchester City, where he made ten appearances for the first team. Since then, he has played for other clubs such as Cardiff, Leeds, Nice, Notts County, Anderlecht and of course Leicester, where he won the Premier League and FA Cup.

In a Leicester shirt, he played 479 games, while he played 284 games in the Premier League. His last club was Scottish side Celtic, where he made 39 appearances this season.

We thank you for the entertainment, Kasper, and wish you the best of luck on your journey.
